Default Emancipating an Out-of-Control Teen in Pennsylvania

My 17 year old is totally out of control - will not come home when told - violates curfew - sleeps in and doesn't go to school (he is a senior and will probably not graduate) - won't work - is verbally abusive and physically attacked me (once - the police were called after I "defended myself") - I am a parenting alone dad - we have been to counseling, both in school and outside, he is in trouble with the law multiple times (for Mickey Mouse sh*t like streaking - yeah streaking - and fighting - plus the new charge of petty retail theft - under a dare from his dumbazz friends) I am paying fines all over the place. Bottom line is, nothing works. At this point I want to throw him out but I am concerned about him being a minor and the fall out of any other legal issues he may get himself into. I want to throw him in the deep end. Time for him to "man-up". No more Daddy bailing him out, feeding him, putting heat and airconditioning in his cozy room etc... How do I emancipate him???

You can't! Emancipation is not a tool to rid yourself of troubled teen or a means for a rebelous teen to leave home without consent. Emancipation is about "self" support and based on your post he cant and wont! If he attacks you call Police have him place din jail (don't bail him out) Talk to Poie or Attorney (even social services) about options like boot camp and possibly labelinghim incorriable. bottom line you cannot throw your wicked teen for the rest of us to deal with

you can always file a complaint with the juvenile court. but when a child is 17 it really becomes a grey area that courts don't like to deal with.

    good luck.

Sending him to jail might not be that tough. He has a sholifting conviction correct? Is he still on probation for that? If so not going to school or any number of actions you have cited may be cause to violate his probation. Talk to probation department

Pennsylvania's emancipation policies vary by county. You may find this information and guide to each county's policy from the Juvenile Law Center to be helpful.
