Default Should I Plead No Contest

A couple weeks ago i was driving around a curve at night, the roads were wet and my car hydroplaned into a mailbox, up a hill and then hit a telephone pole. That night i got no ticket, and went home. About 5 days later the police officer who was at my accident came to my house and told me that "his superior told him he had to write me a ticket because of the mailbox and telephone pole i hit, and that he didn't want to because he knew what it was like to be my age and stuff like that" The ticket was for failure to maintain lanes. i got a letter from the juvenile court : Judicial circuit thing that said my ticket would be $92 dollars, would include a $5 traffic safety class and that if i had any questions to call some lady. i called and left a message. She called my house and spoke to my dad. I wish i was able to talk to her because i had more questions but my dad just found out that it would give me 3 points on my license. I have a friend who is a police officer who told me to plead nolo and that i would have to pay the fine but i wouldn't get any points on my license. Is it true that if i plead no contest that i wouldn't have any points counted against me, and am i able to do this without actually going to court.

i'm sorry if this is difficult to understand but my court date is a week from now and my dad hasn't been very active in helping me with this.

Laws are different in each state. That said, I have yet to find an exception to this rule: A court will treat a no contest plea in the same manner as a guilty plea.

As you were told when you posted, and as I reminded you, laws are different in each state. You need to consult a lawyer in your undisclosed state, discuss the facts of your case and how they relate to the laws of your state, and make a decision as to how to proceed.

i guess i would start by talking to my parents since you say you are a minor. i guess it would depend on what your parents want you to do....
I assume your goal is NOT to get the points. 3 points will increase someone's auto insurance alot, alot!

sorry about the accident...hope you have learned about driving and the weather.

Curious: did you pay for the mailbox damage?
