I am a staff member at a university and have been so for the last 27yrs. In all the time I have been there, I have seen the union issue come up at least 3 other times beside this one that I know of. I have to be honest and say that in the last 15yrs, moral is low, we have a high turn over rate, revolving door with new employees leaving after a short time on job, harrassment etc. The workers have had it and feel that the administrative staff does not have their best interest at heart.
Now all parties and staff members here are not interested in a union. But what I,m most concerned about is wether its legal for unions to form inside business with majority rule? A vote on having them will be done on the 14th of December and already folks want to know how you will vote. I never actually intended on voting cause I,m not interested but is this something to be concerned about? I just do not like the idea of someone telling me that I have to strike just because a group of people decided that they do not like the procedures of a business and they should be changed. Look at the writers strike. I was online in Wikipedia.com and I read all the different avenues that the writers strike effect. Its mind blowing how everything has come to a halt and that people have actually lost their jobs and do not have money coming in. Everybody is not rich like Jerry Seinfeld or Denzel Washington. Some of us have to work for a living.
People should not have this much power. I think its wrong.
