Greetings. I am currently seeing someone who is in the middle of a divorce. He filed in August, went to court for pre-trial a month ago, and his wife is contesting the divorce. They goes back to court in January.
His wife is becoming increasingly unstable. She has spent a lot of time and effort harassing me (I have my own criminal case pending against her) and she is currently in jail for a separate criminal charge. When she failed to appear at the jail to start her sentence, it was her husband and I who contacted the authorities, advising them of where she was so that a bench warrant could be issued. This is something I'm sure she knows and will not be happy about when she gets out. Before she missed her court date, she even spent time in a mental health facility at the order of a doctor.
This woman is becoming more and more dangerous and will probably have a bone to pick with us when she is released later this week. My question is - with all of the trouble she is causing, can any of this be used to help speed up the divorce process? Perhaps if the husband obtains a protective order? Surely a judge can't allow her to continue to contest the divorce when she conducts herself like that and, as a result, her husband is worried about his own safety. Is there anything his lawyer can do to speed the process along for him?
Thank you.
