Default Employee Theft and Review of Video Footage

No offense to those who really are, but the way i acted was incredibly stupid.

I work for a chain drugstore. Ive stolen a few things, and it's been eating me up inside. This was about a week ago. Now, since working there (It's been about 5 months) I've never heard of anyone, even customers, being caught stealing. We don't have full-time LPs and the only reason that the video footage is really checked is in case a question comes up concerning what happened that night.

I have read through most of the threads on this forum, and I haven't seen much concerning how long video footage would be retained. I also realize that in working in a store that is open 15 hours a day, every day of the year, that the chances of them checking the tape at the exact time that i stole are slim. Still, though... I worry. I know I shouldn't have done it and feeling as guilty as i do right now is enough to keep me away from doing it ever again.

I guess I'll ask the questions clearly.

    1) Usually how long do stores like this keep video footage?
    2) If they don't have a reason to check, is it safe to assume they won't see what i did?
    3) Not a question: please, everyone tell me how stupid I am. I can't tell myself enough.

Depends on system your store is using. if its a system like intellex could be a month or more. If straight VCR probably a week maybe less

One should never assume but its safe guess they wont watch 15 hour sof video unless they have heard something evn then not unless they know time frame

Your doing a fine job on that yourself

    Thanks for the reply panther.

You seem to be extremely credible from what I've read on the forum and your response makes me feel a little better.
