    Thank you all so much for your help!!! We will call the toll free number first thing on Monday.
    The response you gave helped put him much more at ease than I have seen him in weeks... so much so that he was actually able to sleep fairly well last night. Moreover, he was able to go to work this morning.

    That's good to hear!

    Just to be sure there are no unpleasant surprises, I've been taking it for granted that FMLA applies. But he has worked for the employer for over 12 months, he has worked 1,250 hours in the last 12 months and the employer has more than 50 employees within 75 miles of his location, right?
