Default Viewing Child Pornography on the Internet

Recently my friend was sent a URL to a website that contained child pornography. He clicked on some parts that turned out to be nude pictures of underage girls. He has been worried about the legality of this - viewing images of child nudity via internet browser. He since then has deleted the history and cookies but is still concerned. Can you get in trouble for this? Or do you have to save the images to computer? so, basically when he was viewing the images it was on his browser, such as The state is New Jersey.

Unless Police are alerted for some reason no one will see he viewed the porn. Now he may think its deleted but its not a forensic computer expert can find the porn if need be to prove your friend was viewing it. However if he viewed it by accident and got off and did not have mor eimages or download any material he does have an arguement as many times links are sent to people. He should keep quiet about this so word does not spread and an investigation begun for any reason.

The government knows people inadvertently encounter child pornography, and wants people to report it.

I'm not sure I would want my name associated with child pornography even if it is reported to the FBI for good purposes. With the way some govenment office's are run you might end up face down on your floor hearing freeze, Don't move!

Editors at dmoz frequently have to deal with links to possibly illegal material, as the purveyors of this material try to sneak it into the directory, and many report it as a matter of due course. Not one has reported a problem with a law enforcement agency investigating them after their report.

If your friend makes a habit of visiting these sites, he might have a problem. Otherwise, he should report it.

here's why ... if he does NOT report it, when the site IS discovered, and the host is investigated, your friend's IP will come up as having visited several images on the site. And, those images may well be saved to a cache or other form of quickly accessible memory on the computer.

You might be very surprised at what is saved in your computer!
