    Default House Surveillance and Privacy

    Hi,

I live in a rental appartment complex and wanted to find out whether I am allowed to have a camera installed in my appartment that would take periodic pictures or video?

Can you point me towards any online resource on this topic. I am from Missouri and couldn't find any laws on the missouri's law page regarding this.

Would I require permission from my landlord before installing anything like this? Would this be considered illegal? I remember someone tell me a while back that having some system that would act as surveillance and cause harm to intruders is illegal. While my video surveillance will not cause harm, can i take video of people entering my appartment...visitors and unwelcome guests?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer on this subject.

    Default Video Surveillance

There is probably not a law that would prohibit you from having video surveillance of the area outside your front door; but yes, you should clear anything you do with your landlord before installing any equipment.
