We are relatively new to an area in Pennsylvania. We purchased a house a little over a year ago. We are just on the border of the city limits, on 3 acres.
Several months ago, I noticed a man meandering, rather casually through our back yard. I never saw him again...until today.
I was walking out to introduce myself. Before I could even open my mouth I was met with hostility, "You're being petty. I'm just playing in the woods with my kid." The man was rather belligerent and his little girl was present, so I just let him leave with out a hassle. A few moments later he returned, banging on my front door.
I remained calm, try to explain how the presence of a stranger on my property could be unnerving, but he seemed adamant that since he's lived in the neighborhood for over 40 years, we should be understanding, with regards to him romping in my back yard.
I did get his name and made it clear that while we would like to be neighborly, we do not want him, or anyone using our property as a short cut, or as a playground and certainly do not appreciate uninvited guests.
With that said, my questions are:
1. If he should return and should happen to be injured, as this is a huge concern, are we responsible?
2. We are putting up "No trespassing" signs today. Is there anything else we need to do to protect ourselves?
Thank you in advanced for any suggestions
