    Default Citizenship Complications

Ok, my Grandfather was born here in the US, while serving in the Army, he met my Grandma in Philipines where my Dad was born in Manila. So as a child, my Dad had citizenship and moved to the states where he went to school, worked hard and served in the Navy and Vietnam. Well, he had a stroke last year and has been on disability since, and a while back applied for early social security. Well, to his suprise, they are saying that he is not a US citizen and needs to apply for citizenship. Well, now he has no income (he has sent them ALL the papers they intitially required i.e. passport number, birth cirtificate, his father birth certificate, bla bla bla. They sent him a letter saying his case has been approved, then a month later he got another one saying that it was suspended. Does anyone know who, where we could call to get a fire under someones butt in those offices before my parents loose their home and assets because they have no income? Thanks for listening.

They keep saying that because of Sept. 11, that things are harder to resolve. Ok, at first when he applied, he only had his birth certificate that said born in Manilla. So that flagged the clerk, since then they have been making him produce document after document, then they finally say that they have what they need, he gets a letter saying approved, then saying it was suspended. So, I am trying to find out, how he can expidite this because as it is right now, they say,"Send us what you have, then we'll get you a form for you to fill out in about 6-8 weeks, then send us the form back completely filled out, then we'll give your a response in about 6-8 weeks" (not an answer, a response). So, at this rate, my parents bills that he is still accumilating cause he is still symptomatic with his stroke. They have been giving them warnings about medical bills and stuff, and how soon they will take action. Well, they just squeaked by with his PG&E retirement and dissability checks and now he can no longer recieve dissability and is only recieving his retirement, which only covers their mortgage and a bill or two (electric and water).

Without knowing the cause of the delay, I can't make suggestions as to how to remedy the problem.

He should try getting help from his Member of Congress or Senator. Some congressional offices are very proactive when it comes to pressing the USCIS on this type of delay.
