    Default Items Needed for Prosecution

What is needed to accuse and or prosecution online solicitation of a minor?

I was in an adult chat room chatting.
I was asked for pictures, which I gave.
I asked to meet, gave my phone number.
Then the person I was chatting with told me they were 17 and that I was introuble for soliciting a minor and that we could either work something out, or they would report me to the authorities.

since I gave my picutres and phone number, am I in serious trouble here?

If it was law enforcement, they'll have full logs of the exchange including when and how representations as to age occurred. I am not sure what you mean by their telling you "that we could ... work something out", but it sounds like somebody may be running a scam.

I am pretty sure it was a scam, they way they phrased it, it sounded like they were saying that if I paid them, they would not go to the authorities,. Although they did not say that exactly, they just said we could work something out. I took that to mean something more like blackmail.

I really doubt they were law enforcement. So, is this a he said/she said situation? Would their chat log's etc have any value? If they did go to the authorities, what stock or value would they take in this persons claims?

Either way, this made me really think about what I do online and how much serious trouble I could be in if it was misrepersented by another party or made a mistake in not knowing who I was really talking to on the other end. People make stuff up all the time, so if someone is in adult chat, says they are 17 almost 18, they should be promptly ignored.

If it had been the police they would not have told you that you were in trouble online. They would have knocked on your door with a search warrant and confiscated your computer and the charged you if you had been soliciting a minor online. Because this scam is local, and as long as you have not been improper online, you can make a report to the police fraud division so they will know this scam is going around. The real police don't go to adult sites to entice adults. They go to teenage sites to monitor the chat. Besides if it had been real they would have already had all your chat with this person and know when you found out her age.
