    Post Disestablishing Paternity

Unfortunately, I signed the birth certificate & agreed to child support of a child that is not mines. She's 3 now and DNA tests prove that I am not the father. I only requested the test because her mother would not allow me to see her on a regular basis, therefore, I filed for visitation (pro se) and at that time I requested the testing. Needless to say, she's on assistance and the judge handling our family law cases keeps telling me to get an attorney. I can't afford to get one and it seems impossible to get some help on this issue in Broward County Florida. I just want my name off of the birth certificate and to be released from child support. The judge and others keeps telling me I can't file "Disestablishment of Paternity Forms" on my own. How can I get some free or affordable assistance with this matter?

What you are wanting to do is extremely hard, if not impossible.

    You must hire a lawyer.

Thank you for your response, but are you saying that if I am unable to retain an attorney, that my only alternative is to continue being responsible for a child that is not mines? Is there no way I can file the forms needed on my own? Or, that there is no legal assistance available in family law for people that are unable to retain normal counsel?

If you can figure out what you need to do on your own, and successfully do it, then you don't need a lawyer. If you can't figure out what you need to do, can't figure out what to do in court, or both, then you need a lawyer. The judge in charge of your case apparently believes you fall into the latter category.

Here are some Florida resources for finding legal information or getting a lawyer.
