    Exclamation Employee Theft in Michigan

    Hello
I am from Lansing Michigan. I have worked in a grocery store for about a year when my friends boyfriend came in and stole a bunch of stuff. in total around 450.00 dollars worth. I didnt know when he came in that he was going to steal all the stuff, but then he came up to the registar and talked to me and said he was going to walk out with everything. I didnt know what to do, He said he was leaving and to walk away from the counter so I did, (I just didnt think, it was like my mind froze) I didnt want to get him in trouble! after that I felt bad and went to the store general manager and told him what happened and Then I paid for all of the stuff he stole, and they said if i gave the store my friends boyfriends name and provided some information on another situation involving employee theft then he would write me a letter saying that he would not involve police or bring any charges toward me. so he wrote me a note and I paid for everything taken. Now The police called me a couple days ago to ask me questions, and they were in front of my house last night, Even though they wrote me the note, I paid, and gave them info, can they still charge me? can the state charge me even though the store said they would not?
My friends boyfriend hasnt even been questioned, its like they arent even looking at him! although he is the one on camera taking all the stuff!

Its legal to lie although its unethical. Yes they can still charge you but fact you paid helps you. You consult with a criminal defense Attorney soon as you can
