Default Will the USPS Hire Someone With a Misdeamenor Record

Hi, back in 2000 , i took the exam470-c for the post office. i was called for an interview, and all was well, i even told the truth about my misdeamenor (possesion of stolen property). I was 20 at the time, and they told me sorry. The charge was fresh about 3-mths old, maybe thats why i was turned down. Know 7 years later i find myself taking the exam and passed it. What about my record, can it be exponged, or should i just go into the interview as homble and honest as i should. The record was charged in NY i now reside, and applied in NJ. thanks.

New York doesn't expunge convictions. You may qualify for a certificate of rehabilitation or relief from disabilities, but that wouldn't affect a federal employer. If you want to know the hiring policies of the USPS, I suggest you inquire with their human resources department.

I recently had an interview with the USPS. They had a section on criminal convictions on one of their government forms in the application package. I had a Misdemeanor conviction and asked if that would disqualify me. They said as long as I disclosed the conviction it would not, but if it was the reason they would not hire me, due to the circumstances in the conviction, that I would get a letter stating that reason and I would have 15 day to respond in writing to explain my case to the HR supervisor. I’ll just have to wait and see.
