Default Falsely Accused of Forgery of Loan Application

    trouble in michigan...

very early this year i was "happily" married and filled out a loan application jointly with my spouse and the loan was approved. I signed my name AND her name to the application believing i had her permission.

during the summer we split and are going thru a divorce, she now claims she did not give me permission to sign her name, filed a forgery report and i now have a court date for the issue.

i have cooperated with the police and courts and i even paid off the loan in question, 5 years early to help bury this issue.

my contention is that simply because she does not remember giving me permission dosen't mean she can have me prosecuted does it?

i believe the original reason behind the charges are, in fact, to blackmail me into agreeing with anything she desires so she gets everything she wants in the divorce proceeding.

i have a law enforcement degree, worked in law enforcement and may want to pursue this field again as a career and this can ruin me...can i sue her for slander if the charges are dropped?????

"I signed my name AND her name to the application believing i had her permission" - Your belief doesn't mean that her different recollection is untrue.
