Employment Problems From a Record for Retail Fraud

In 2000 I was sentenced for 3rd dregree retail fraud in the state of Michigan. I havent done anything or look forward to anytime in the future since then. I keep applying for different jobs that interest me , some of the excuses for not getting the job are I didnt meet the qaulifications when I know I was over-qualified for the position. Other excuse somestimes are related to my criminal record. I was wondering how long does this stay visible to employers in the state of Michigan? How long does it stay on my record? Is there anyway I can make so called "invisible" to employers? I am tired of working jobs that dont interest me and I think this is stopping me from getting the job I want. Please help me out here. Any advice is helpful.

That sucks, what do you mean by starting low and work your way up? I dont want to work in a factory, I like working in a store or automotive shop because I have more experience and enjoy it. any suggestions?

Does that form and etc. actually work for employment reasons? how much of a percent will it happen in my favor? the reason I ask is $50 dollars is a lot to dish out if its not guaranteed to be removed/non-public to employers. Please let me know asap!
