Emancipation help for New York

If I understand this correctly you are a legal adult by the age of 18.

If you are 16 you are allowed to leave the house legally correct?

For example I am going to be 16 in 3 months. If I was to leave the house now with some friends my mother could charge thoes friends with kidnap since they are over 18. I could also be forced to return to the house if my mom wanted me to return.

But when I am 16 I will be able to leave the house and my mother can't do anything about getting me back into the house and can't charge my friends with all sorts of bad things that I don't wnat them to be charged with. Correct?

In other words if I tough it out here for 3 months I can walk out the door and my mother can't force me to stay in the house.

If things get really bad in thoes 3 months I can call in child protective services and stuff I guess..

Just wondering if this is correct. Oh and even if Im 16 and have not gotten permission for a court house I still need my parents signatures on important documents and such correct?

If you are sixteen, unemancipated, and leave home without parental consent, you are a "runaway". Most states have laws which criminalize harboring a runaway, or even encouraging children to run away from home.

OK so than.. if New york will only recognize you as an emancipated minor AFTER you can show that you have a place outside the hosue to live and canmake your own money than how int he world do you get out in the first place?
