My village in Ohio passed a new property Ordinance. All property owners have until May 1, 2008 to comply with the new standards set in action by the council. IE. Foundations walls, windows, siding, roofs, porches, vehicles, trash, outbuildings, etc. If owners don't comply, they are threatened with a misdemeanor and $100 fine for each day that the problem is corrected.
My question is that my property is not what we would call “up to code” but they are asking way too much to be corrected in a short amount of time when my funds to do the repairs are not there. (which is why the property is the way it is. ) We are attempting to get grants to help get some items completed, but there are very few we quality for. (Make too much to get help yet not enough to help fix things.) Is it legal to have an ordinance that threatens a misdemeanor by not complying with this ordinance with little time to do so?
