2 years ago when I was 20 I got involved with a girl who was 16. We had known each other through a mutual friend and started talking. She snuck me in her room one night and we fool around, she got naked, but we did not have sex. We would often talk online, about things of sexual nature, what we wanted to do ect on instant messenger and in email. Her dad ended up reading her emails and found out about it and confronted me. He had contacted the police and told them what happened ect, but since she was 16, which I believe is the age of consent, they could not do anything about it, plus we did not have sex. he did have printed out email proof of us talking about having sex and what we wanted to do so he claimed he had charges of soliciting a minor for sex over the internet. I got a lawyer and everything and I told him what happened and he asked if I knew the girl before all the talking and the answer was yes, and he said I should be ok then. Nothing ever came of it and the Dad let it go. The girl is now 18 and I am 22 and we are interested in each other again, and plan on having sex which if the dad finds out will surely enrage him and make him try to peruse the old charges.. I am worried however if her dad finds out that I am talking to her again, he is going to find some charges and press them on me. My question is, is there a statute of limitations for soliciting a minor for sex over the internet in Maryland? I know there has been a lot of legislation about this type of thing recently and I was not sure.
if he somehow does get the soliciting a minor for sex over the internet charges to stick and we go to court, what will happen?
Any advice is greatly appreciated and in your response please let me know if you are infact a lawyer, and in what state you practice.
