    Default Statutes of limitation

Question? I recently went to renew my lic and found out there were 2 different warrants out for my arrest. One was in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio and the other was in Canton Ohio. The one in Canton was from December 07 2003 I got a speeding ticket and was sentenced to 30 hours of Community Service to be completed in 30 days, however; I did not complete the Community Service therefore they issued a bench warrant for my arreset to find out why I did not complete. Then in Cuyahoga Falls I found out that Star Chevorlete pressed charges on me for Bouncing a check in the ammount of $600 on June 18 2004, and on June 21st I paid them the check when I noticed it bounced. But when I called them yesterday according to them it was to late and they already pressed charges. My question to eeryone is this. I have just got my life back in order and I can't go to jail for something this stupid, is there any Statutes of limitation on this issue? how long until these warrants are not valid anymore and I can get my Driver Lic back? Please let me know if anyone knows anything.

    Thanks.

Ohio does have a statute of limitations for criminal offenses (Ohio Revised Code ยง 2901.13) - but in most cases the statute only runs up to the date when a prosecution is commenced - that is, "the date an indictment is returned or an information filed, or on the date a lawful arrest without a warrant is made, or on the date a warrant, summons, citation, or other process is issued, whichever occurs first."

I suggest you consult a local criminal defense lawyer about that possibility; or perhaps more constructively, about contacting the prosecutor in Cuyahoga Falls to see if you can resolve that charge (particularly given that the $600 was tendered almost immediately after the check bounced). You may wish to call the Canton court yourself, or if you prefer to work through a lawyer in that County, to see if you can simply pay a fine to resolve the ticket and warrant.
