I was hospitalized for surgery over a year ago & had insurance at the time. The claims were submitted to the insurance company but to date they have only paid some of them. They did not pay for the actual surgery itself or the hospital bill which together totalled $33,000. Since then, we have gotten different insurance coverage. My husbands place of employment has filed lawsuit against the first insurance company for not paying numerous medical bills of which mine was one. They are claiming that all claims will eventually be paid but not until the lawsuit is finalized. My question is this: Am I responsible for paying the $33,000 since I did have insurance coverage at the time? and can I actually be sued for this debt? I don't think it's right that I would be forced to pay this amount when I had valid insurance coverage to pay for it. Needless to say, nor do I have that type of money to pay it with. Can anyone give me some advice.
