Possession of Marijuana in Massachusetts

I live in Massachusetts and I got a charge of possession of a small bag of marijuana. I have no priors or anything. I have to go to court for a hearing in a month. I am 17 years old. Do I need a legal parent or guardian with me? I was told I could go by myself or possibly with an older brother who is 20. I just don't want my parents finding out. The cops told me it might get dismissed anyway when I get there.

I believe that once you turn 17 you are regarded as an adult in Massachusetts, which means that you can get an adult conviction and adult criminal record for your offense.

A local criminal defense lawyer can advise you as to the availability of diversion programs or sentencing options which may allow you to avoid a criminal conviction.

Note that if you are convicted, the consequences will be such that your parents are likely to find out anyway - typically, for example, there is a driver's license suspension.

well...i mean i don't know how i can't be convicted. he asked if i had weed on me, i got scared and said yes and that was that. i'm guessing it will either be dismissed or i will get community service. will i get a probation officer and drug tests?
