    Default Getting an F-1 Visa After Conversion To F-1 Status

    Hello. I came to the US on a J-1 visa and then i changed my status to a B-2 and afterwards to an F-1 status. I understand I am not allowed to leave the US until I finish my studies. How would I be able to get an F-1 visa?

    My plan is to go to a third country for example Canada and apply for an F-1 visa at that country. I would also like to know which countries I could go to get this done? I am Ukrainian.

    My question is what are the chances of getting my F-1 visa and if I fail in getting an F-1 visa would I still retain my F-1 status?

    Also if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can go about getting an F-1 visa another way or while remaining in the US I would greatly appreciate it.

    no I have F-1 status not a visa. I can stay here on my status but If I left the country I wouldn't be able to return because i don't have a visa

    I want to go back to my country during the vacation to see my family but I want to be able to return when the term starts again

    An F-1 student with an expired visa may reenter the United States as though the visa were still valid if the student returns after a visit to Mexico, Canada, or the Caribbean Islands (except Cuba) which does not exceed 30 days, provided the F-1 student:
    • Has maintained and intends to resume status as an F-1 student in the U.S.;
    • Presents a valid Form I-94;
    • Presents a SEVIS I-20 endorsed (signed) for reentry;
    • Presents a valid passport (unless exempt from passport requirements); and
    • applies for readmission within the authorized period of 30 days.
    Although there is a risk of being denied, a person who entered the United States on a visa other than F-1, but whose status was subsequently changed to F-1 status by the USCIS, may be considered to have the previous visa automatically revalidated and converted to an F-1 visa if the person meets the conditions stated above.

    As I stated, there is a risk of being denied. I can't offer you guarantees.
