Does anyone with a know if there is a statute of limitations on paying back the court on a restitution conviction or does it stay on the "books" forever if it's not paid back?![]()

Laws are different in each state. Typically you are expected to pay off your restitution during your probation. If you do not, at the end of your probation you may be subject to an extension of the probation or to probation violation proceedings. It may be possible under some circumstances to be discharged from probation with outstanding restitution. Some states will convert the balance into a civil judgment, which the victim can seek to collect through the civil court system.
Thank-you Aaron for your reply, and a most speedy one at that! My problems occured 20 years ago, do you happen to know how long a "Bench-Warrant" would be effect?![]()
It will depend on the state and court. Bench warrants can be presumed to be indefinite in duration.
OK, thanks again Aaron. I was pretty sure of that already as I have been in contact with a Lawyer who is trying to quietly look into this with out "ruffling" any feathers out there. I have Serious Mental Disorders which have only recently been diagnoised and treated with medications. It was like coming out of a fog I've been in all my life and I now see how irresponsible I have been acting most of my life. Honestly I had forgotten a lot of what had occured in my life. Please see below for a new thread as to the "rest of the story". Still trying to clean up my life starting with my debts to others and to society.
By the way: Baystategirl, go to Criminal Procedure/Probation & Parole, for my new thread and see a synopsis of this issue(and others).
