Post Co-Signer Wants Off Of The Loan, and Claims Fraud

My friend (a co-worker) volunteered to co-sign a student loan for my daughter. Without her husbands knowledge. A month passed and her husband found out and now she wants her name off as the co-signer of the loan. If we had had any other option at the time we would not of used her as a co-signer. She volunteered I never asked her. Now she had a lawyer send me a letter stating that my daughter and I induced her to sign and she signed under false and misleading information.

She knew exactly what she was doing and there was no false or misleading information. I personally was in the hospital at the time and the agreement was between her and my daughter. My daughter is 26 years old, not a minor.

She asked for a letter stating when we would remove her name and I gave her one. I told her my daughter would obtain a new loan by August 1, 2008

The lawyer said that was not exceptable.

She signed a promisory note and all information was made available to her. She had plenty of time to change her mind.

Does she have any legal grounds to sue me? Her lawyer also stated in the letter that he wouldn't want to jepordize my career or my family life. I took that as a threat. What does my career or my family life have to do with it?

We work together and she has made it very difficult for me at work.

Why are you making promises about what your daughter will supposedly do? You're not a party to the loan contract.

I have no idea what you supposedly did which would somehow have induced your friend to cosign the loan. Without knowing that, I have no idea how to respond to the mystery allegations.

My daugter actually signed a letter stating she would optain a new loan by August 1, 2008. I personally have nothing to do with it this agreement was between my co-worker and my daughter and she did nothing to induce her into co-signing the agreement. I feel I shouldn't be involved at all. So why is the lawyer sending me letters?

Your guess is at least as good as ours, probably better.
