Default Hitting Someone at a Social Event

Hi I'm 19 and I live in Canada (so my laws might be different from yours)

Recently at a social event someone was mouthing off at me and he got me so angry that I hit him in the face (no damage done, not even a cut). Now I think he's going to charge me with assault.

What kind of punishment or record will I be looking at?

If a simple assault results in a summary conviction, the penalty is a fine of up to $2,000 or 18 months' imprisonment or both. Most likely you would get fines, probation, perhaps an order not to have contact with the victim, and perhaps a requirement that you complete an anger management course.

Would any of that give me any kind of criminal record, like the kind of thing that would affect my future employment, and basically ruin my life?

If you get a criminal conviction, you get a criminal record.
