Default Medical Costs After A Head Injury

In the State of Illinois, Chicago I was struck in the head with a bottle and I was rushed to the ER via ambulance. I was diagnosed with head lacerations and contusion and was treated with sutures and staples. I don't have medical insurance and I need to return to the ER to have the staples removed. Will I have to pay to have the staples removed?

You should expect that there will be a fee for staple removal. You may wish to explore other options, such as the Access Community Health Network, which could save you a lot of money over an ER bill.

Note - surgical staples are not like sutures ("stitches"), and you should not try to remove them yourself. You might end up back in the ER a second time, getting your head stapled back together.
