    Default Refund Fraud

    Retail Fraud: Renting
Renting involves purchasing an item clothes, for example then using the item for only a couple of days and returning it for a full refund.

I was wondering if people actually get prosecuted for this? How do you prove someone wore it for a few days?

If you engage in return fraud, you can be prosecuted. Laws are different in each state.

I think it's a difficult thing to prove, but they can inspect the item and refuse the return if it shows signs of wear or use. They can also make you feel very uncomfortable to the point where you don't want to put yourself in that position.

Prosecution is probably rare, unless it's done several times. If it's on a credit card they can add on credit card fraud, but again, I think it's difficult to prove and rarely done.
