Default Help For Emancipation in Michigan

hi, i live in michigan and i am 16 years old almost 17. i live with both of my parents and unfortunantly i dont get along with either one. my mom and i fight constitently and we never agree on anything. when she gets mad at me she does stupid little things to show she pissed...things that a 10 year old would do. my parents do dont get along with each other and have a very unhappy marriage. my father often takes his anger at my mother out on me...he has threatened to kill be before if i take her side in an arguement. i cant take the fighting and the arguing anymore and i am sick of crying myself to sleep everynight. i have a job of my own, a car that i already pay the insurance and gas on, i have my own bank account and credit card which i have full control over. i pay for everything i need when i go out and i pay for my lunches at work and during the school year. i strongly believe i would be able to fully support myself....what can i do to get emancipated

To be emancipated in Michigan, absent a circumstance which automatically results in emancipation (such as marriage or active duty service in the armed forces), you would have to convince a court that you are able to support yourself, and are capable of responsibly managing your financial and social affairs. Michigan's emancipation statutes are available online.

When you read the statutes linked above, did any of them say that your parents have to approve?

no, so they would not be able to fight it if the court approves it

    IF the court approves it.

But don't hold your breath waiting for the court to approve it. VERY, VERY few minor emancipations are ever approved. I'm talking about perhaps one out of every thousand applications.
