I am 16 years old and I was caught shoplifting $120 worth of merchandise from a Kohls store about 3 months ago in Michigan. The police were called and my mom had to come pick me up. The police officer didn't do anything, but I signed a paper saying if I wanted to enter a Kohls store before I was 18 it would have to be with a parent or gaurdian. They took my picture for the system and told me about the civil charges I would have to pay. I think they also said something about going to court. I recieved the civil thing, and paid the $200 out of my own pocket, but haven't heard anythign since. Does this mean that they aren't taking criminal actions? Also is my school going to be notified beucase I play a sport and am extremely worried about the concequences. This was a huge mistake and I wish I could take it back. Since I can't I am only trying to deal with everything that is happening the best I can. The worst part is how much I dissapointed my parents. What is a diversion program, and is there one in Michigan? What can I do ?? Also will this affect applying to colleges next year when I become a senior?
