Hello,
I exhausted my initial UI benefits in January 2007 and recently refiled when my benefit year ended in July. I called the ESC office, told them my circumstances, and was told that I was eligible.
I've been applying for permanent part-time jobs (which is what my initial job was: 8 til 2 each day @ $26K per year) but have not found anything yet. I took a part-time job with a local community college, but it ended up being "as needed" and I'm lucky to get 15 hours a month @ $10 per hour.
I also registered as a substitute teacher (which is also "as needed") and have accepted all available assignments -- usually 1 - 3 days a week @ $65 per day. During the summer (from June - August) I didn't work at all because school was out.
After receiving 4 weeks of benefits I received a notice that I was ineligible because I am technically not unemployed. I reported my earnings each week, so some weeks the benefit was reduced.
Is this right? Why would they say that I can earn $50 per week before my benefits are reduced, and then deny my benefits because I'm working?
Michelle
