Hello all.
My child's father recently decided that he was not mature enough to be a father to our daughter. He has stopped working, stopped checking in with his probation officer, and has stopped asking for our daughter for the weekends. He has basically fallen off of the plant, so to say.
I would like to change her last name to mine. I believe it will be much easier on my part; I won't need his permission/signature for whatever at the moment, as my daughter and I do not share the same last name.
I know little about all the legal things I have to go through, but I do know that he has a right to petition this name change. Being as he has an awful record(you name it, he has done it), and that there is currently a protection order in place, will the courts take this into account at all?
Sorry if it was too hectic to understand at all.
