Default Where can an Email Fraud Victim Get Help?

I have read this forum, and I am here to tell you that I am one of the spam vitims.

To make the story short. I met a lady on the internet, and we got along as future partners.

Eventually along the way, she was able to gain money from me because she told me that it was the process for me to gain "power of attroney" in order to have the money her dad left to be transfered in my account.

As soon she got that money, she never came back online. This happened in September last year.

Is there anything I can do to prosecute her? What can I do to make sure this lady is not continuing stealing money from other men over the internet? She is very beautiful and very inteligent and she knows well to play this game. I will be willing to provide any information if neccessary.

In meantime, please advise me what to do

    Thanks

    Default Internet Fraud

I am not sure what type of fraud was involved. If you are speaking of advance fee fraud, review this page about how to report your loss to the Secret Service.

Thanks Aaron for your preminary advice

    What happened is:

At first, I met her in singles site. She was searching for her souls as I was. Therefore we got into "internet" love.

After I have known her for about four months, she told me that her dad passed away and left her millions dollar in the bank. She requested me to have "power of attroney" and I agreed.

I payed $650 for this "fake power of attroney" to be processed. After that I was told that I had to pay more fees so that those millions dollar could be transfered to my account. At this time, I started to be suspicious. I must admit that if I had money, I would have paid those fees because I though it was 100% true. Therefore, I sent her $1000 to show my support so that she could do her best to come up with rest fees.

Luckly, I asked second opinion from my friend who knew someone who lives in the country where these millions were claimed to be..

My friend sent friend to visit this bank, and it was revealed that the bank was not existing. The address used for this bank was found to be just an appartment.

When I informed her on my findings, she never came back online..

Now you have sense on what happened!

Do you think secrete services will still be able to assist me even though it is almost a year now? Will they be able to arrest her if I provide all the neccessary information?

One more question: Did I commit crime by agree with this lady and take my money for nothing?

Thanks once again for your help. I have decided to post this online so that other should not get into trouble as I did.

If it falls within their jurisdiciton, they will take the report. It is impossible for me to know if they can help. The passage of a year makes it less likely.

To take what money? The inheritance didn't exist.

    Default Email Fraud

I am not privy to their investigative methods. It would be interesting, but hey, they are the Secret Service.

'For nothing', you got a first case education in being ripped off. This is very sad. Sorry it happened to you.
