Default Disputing Ticket before Tow in California

I got a $25 ticket yesterday for my inoperable unregistered van, and today they towed it. I want to just take my stuff out and let them keep it because I was going to sell it for scraps anyway. I don't know if the judge involved might have room to be reasonable if I kindly explain my financial troubles and some issues that have been between myself and the US military regarding this vehicle (the service made me purchase a vehicle to get from the barracks to work and refused to give wear and tare or gas compensation for owning it before I was financially ready) but if there is any way for me to get out of paying the ticket on top of being raped the value of the scrap for myself, I'd like some advice on what the letter of dispute should say.

Most likely, your best bed is to pay the ticket and impound fee, recover the vehicle, and sell it. If you don't, the odds are you will run up a massive impound fee by the time the vehicle is scrapped.

Is there any such thing as a human sense of justice overriding the impound fees?

No. You can go explain why it was unregistered (it was inoperable), and maybe your ticket will be dismissed, but you might have $100 admin. fees instead. The tow yard will want hook-up fees, and daily storage fees. They can't sell the car without you signing title over, so tell them right away you don't want it back, and ask them if they want the title. If they don't want the car, then have a scrap yard tow it out of there for you after you pay all the tow yard fees. Sign title to the junk yard who will file the salvage title.

I totally agree with all of the above. Also, you'll need to make a deal with the tow company before they'll let you get any of your stuff out of it.
