My family and I have been living in the US for 10 years. My wife is Canadian and has a child from a first marriage. This child has my wifes maiden name on the birth cert. Both my wife and my daughter have green cards and we have two other children both of which are mine. The biological father is pretty much out of the picture with no contact and no support. We live in Georgia and want to have our oldest daughters name changed to the family name. My question is - will the issue of citizenship be the first hurdle to have a name change? Would this be the only challenge and if so, should I just go ahead and make plans to do a straight adoption. THANKS!
