Hello everyone,

I was recently informed that many of the service academies requires a security clearance, which (I believe) gives the government the power to view Juvenile records for misdemeanors. When I was 15, I received Stolen property from one of my friends (It was a 10 dollar BMW hood ornament that he nicked from someones car a couple miles away) I later came to the police after I heard that the police were questioning a lot of the local kids in the neighborhood and returned that hood ornament. My friend (luckily on his part) flew back to the U.S. the following morning because his family were already in a hotel and ready to fly back. The military police however interviewed me, and made me file a report. I was extremely cooperative and basically did the entire case for the police. The originally gave me 50 hours of community service, but I write a letter to the commander of the military garrison, and he subtracted 40 hours, and I only had to do 10.

I'm terrified though. I want to apply to a service academy, the application reads as follows:

"Include any cases in which the record may have been expunged or sealed, including juvenile records. NOTE: FAILURE TO REPORT ANY SUCH INCIDENT MAY BE GROUNDS FOR WITHDRAWAL OF AN OFFER OR AN APPOINTMENT OR MAY SUBSEQUENTLY RESULT IN DISMISSAL FROM THE ACADEMY. A police record check is required if you are offered an appointment. A complete background investigation will be made if selected as a Midshipman for purposes of granting a Security Clearance.

Give a complete description of the incident(s). State where and when each incident occurred, the nature of the offense(s) and the date and disposition of the case(s). Your application will not be evaluated unless a complete description of the incident is provided."

Now also take note. I live on a military base OVERSEAS within Europe. Would people have access to background checks on military garrisons overseas? What does it mean to get expunged? Could I get expunged? Im a community leader and currently have a mayoral position, and have done many great things. What should I do? Help?
