    Default Shoplifting at Radio Shack

I've never been so worried in my life. It's been a tough week and I have bills I need to pay so I decided to do something dumb and shoplift a $129 cable from Radioshack so I can sell it and have some funds. I brought the cable to an area where I knew there wouldn't be cameras pointing at me and put it in my shirt. There were no visible signs that I had anything on me and walked out of the store and went to my car.

After I started my car and put the cable away in the backseat, about a minute passed after I was in my car and I was about to pull out, and then a Radioshack employee walked out of the store. I don't really see any reason that she would be walking out besides to possibly check if I were there. So I pulled out naturally, but tried to block view of my license plate and drove off. Most likely she didn't see it or get a chance to write it down because I was a good 50+ meters away, but if she did get it, what's the most she could do with it?

I know it's real early, but I'm just thinking about possible scenarios. Due to all the fear that I'm having today, I can honestly say that I will never do something so stupid again. I'm 17 and starting my second year in a community college transfering out to a UC in the next. Would I be tried as an adult if it gets that far? When would be the latest I would recieve notice if something does happen?

I know none of the employees saw me and I was not caught on tape doing anything. So I figure at worst, she did get my license plate, and reported it to the police department.

What sort of punishment can I be looking at here?

Also, my record is completely clean, this would be a first offense.

    Default Shoplifting

Usually, a first offense shoplifting conviction results in a fine, probation, and possibly a requirement of community service or participation in a County work program.

Would that end up on my record and would it make it harder for me to get jobs in the future? How long would it be if they did call the police to file a report until I hear from them?

    It can.

    I could only guess.
