My Fiance and I are both Jamaican. I was born here and he was not. He came to this country in 1982, graduated from high school here and even served 4 years in the US Marine Corp. with an honorable discharge. In 1995 he was convicted of drug traffiking and served less than a year and has kept his nose clean ever since. June 1st of this year 2 agents from INS came and detained him because of his felony. He is currently out on bond awaiting his Master Calender Hearing on 8/15/07. I'm really worried because we haven't been able to afford a lawyer. Can he ask for addtl time to seek counsel. What really has me worried is that the letter sent by the Immigration court stated that he is to be represented by counsel on the date of his master calender hearing. Does anyone know if the judge will give him addtl time? Also, does it sound like he has relief under a 212c waiver? We have 2 girls and 3 boys, and we are trying to fight this but it seems like we can't get any help.
