The state is New York.

This case is too complicated to go into, but two attorneys suggested that I sue the police. I was up against a political fund raiser who obviously called in a lot of favors because NOTHING my lawyer told me was going to happen EVER happened. He was completely out of the loop during the entire case, and every single thing he told me was incorrect. One of the things he said was that if we filed a suit with the police, the detective who was harrassing me would be taken off the case. Never happened.

Anyway, I went to the city's law firm with my lawyer and gave a deposition. I asked what was going on with the case about 9 months later and my lawyer said it would be appearing on the docket soon. This was in 2004, okay?

I wrote to him some time ago (I now live in another city) and asked what happened to my personal possessions that the police took from me and why had I never gotten them back - this included some disks containing articles I had written for various publications, an address file, etc., and also, what did happen with the case against the city. I did jury duty in that city, and during the voir dire, I mentioned that I was SUPPOSED to have a case against the police but it just never showed up. They were perplexed. The attorney never responded to my letter or several phone calls.

This thing was an outrageous mess and because of it I lost my job, was denied unemployment, had to spend a night in jail, and all of my friends and people in my building were harrassed for months and months because I refused to plea, as I had not committed what was in effect a misdemeanor, though they treated me like Scott Peterson. Nothing can ever be done about it now, and I was completely beaten down by the system, in part because I had a bad lawyer who sat back and let the DA run a truck over him. However, at the time, I so traumatized I was paralyzed with fear 24/7.
