Hi,
My wife got an apartment in her name. We were seperated for several months and I lived elsewhere. I want to move in with her at this point, but need to add my name to the lease.
The problem is that my credit is pretty BAD.
I have heard that there are laws out there which apply to this situation which indicate that I cannot be excluded as a spouse, nor could a rent increase transpire instantaneously.
I will need to know the following to determine how to proceed:
1) Could I be denied the ability to add my name to the lease?
2) Could the Management Company impose a rent increase on the spot for this?
3) Could they charge me fees beyond my application fee to move in based on my negative credit?
I would like to have as much information as possible before walking into that office.
Hours of searching the Virginia Statutes have yielded no results.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
