Default Recovery For Property That Was In A Stolen Vehicle

My car was stolen from a carwash in Los Angeles. The customer is to give the attendant the keys and wait in the lobby til the car comes through, but my car never came through. The car was stolen by a dude off the street, not an attendent, and all was caught on tape. My insurance will cover the loss of my car, but I had about $10,000 worth of audio and video equiptment in the vehicle. I am also an artist, and I had a large amount of artwork/photography/film on the computer and hard drives. How/can I sue for more than just the equiptment and is it necessary for me to have a lawyer?

Who are you intending to sue? You can sue the thieves, if you know who they are, for everything they took.

How did the theives manage to steal your car under these circumstances?
