Default Suspended License Due To Insurance Issues Outside Of My Control

Hi, I live in Pennsylvania and I was pulled over last night for what was to be a simple burned out rear brake light. After the officer (local) took my information, he returned and told me that my car had no insurance and that that my license had been suspended - the three citations I received say:

    1. Driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked + operated vehicle with suspended/revoked license.

    2. Financial responsibility required + operated vehicle without insurance.

    3. Operation following suspension of registration + operated vehicle with suspended registration.

Believe me, this was news to me - and as you can already guess - I am not the one who deals with the insurance / registration of the family cars. So the officer took my car, and my license and told me I had to pay the cost that went with each fine. One question I have is - isn't someone supposed to tell me I have a suspended license?

To back track a little bit - my mother - the one who dealt with insurance and registration is currently in jail for debt issues wherein she was opening up credit cards to pay off other credit cards. It's pretty bad - I know. But the horizon on that front looks good because a wealthy uncle is helping us settle those debts. In any event, she assured us - from jail - that the cars were insured with Progressive ( though we cannot find any cards to prove it ). The card that was in my car expired the 12th of this month and the registration was due to expire the 31st ( I am to assume that being fined for a "suspended registration" has to do to the fact that there apparently was no insurance and thus it was suspended - and it wasn't due to any error in the officer believing the registration expired? )

I guess ultimately - I want to know what is the best course to get my license back? Because as far as I know - it was not suspended. Yes -a little over a year ago it had been suspended ( once again, due to insurance issues involving my mother -why I trusted her afterwards I'll never know ) but I paid my dues. I paid the fines - waited until I could get it back and I went in - got a new picture taken and they handed me a new license! They even sent me back my old suspended one. Since then - I have not been pulled over or been notified in any manner that my license was suspended.

What is my best course of action to get my license back? As far as I'm concerned - I believe I have done nothing wrong - and have been guilty in putting my trust into someone I should not have. Is there a way to tell the people who took my car that they can keep it - I have no intention of recovering it and don't want to pay any costs involving its release. Thank you for your time.

A: The best thing to do is to hire a lawyer to help you do this.

How old are you? Is the car registered in your name?
