I had a roommate who was not on our lease. (2 bedroom apartment with a friend of mine on the lease) He stayed for a several months until we kicked him out.
When he moved in, management of the apartments wanted him to be put on the lease, but that never happened. When we kicked him out, at the beginning of March, 2007, he only moved a portion of his stuff. When he originally moved in, several months beforehand, he added a garage space to our lease to help him store his possessions.
Fast forward to July 15th, he had never come back to get his items, so when we moved out, we basically left his items in the apartment, and I assume were junked/donated by management. Random clothes, personal items, couple small pieces of furniture, etc. He came several days after our last day, the 15th, and found the unlocked garage empty, and of course the apartment was locked, and I assume, empty also.
Now he's demanding his items back, or payment for them, or he is going to hire a lawyer. I have had no contact with him in the last month, have not answered calls or text messages, and I'm wondering what kind of legal recourse he could possibly have. We never really made a big effort to contact him or anything to come get his stuff, but he never made an effort to contact us either, until the last week or so, when we had already vacated the apartment.
The monthly fee for the garage was an additional $50 times 4 months, but I don't really expect to get any money from him. I'm just a slight bit nervous about his possible legal action, even though we no longer have any of his items.
