Would it be easy to get him to move out? Can he take a legal course to seek monetary compensation for eviction prior to verbally agreed upon dates?
I am the sole name on the lease with my landlord. This is the case with my current roommate. Apartment is in New Jersey.
My roommate pays bills and rent. But is not very regular with payments. He is also not willing to contribute his share to miscellaneous expenses but keeps claiming on grandiose schemes. The long and short of it is that there are too many ongoing issues that have been making our living arrangements progressively uncomfortable. He is a south asian male here in the US on an H1B work permit. He has some personal issues and a slightly twisted way of thinking. He is quick to take offence and very rude in any discussion.
- He is not on the lease as he was not eligible because he has newly moved to the US and does not meet the salary requirements. Only I did.
- He has lived at the house for 7 months.
- He is disrespectful of person and property, and I want him to leave
Legally can I simply ask him to move and he is obliged to do so? Or do I need to give a notice? I don't want to give an impression to him to even think that he has a chance at fighting me legally on this. Simply put, I want to be rid of him.
What are my options?
