I have an 20 y/o niece who lives in Ohio who is married to a 33 y/o via a "quickie" marriage in Tennessee in Dec 06. For the past several months the husband has been taking his wife to emergency rooms throughout the city with complaints of false illnesses, aches, and pains so that she can be given prescription medications. In turn, he is overmedicating her and using the drugs himself. Her parents (my brother and sister-in-law) are EXTREMELY concerned and have even tried to enlist the help of local law enforcement, but their hands tied because she is married. The husband has a restraining order against them and monitors all phone calls. Apparently the husband has been in trouble with the law before and I have been told that the apartment they are living in is in my niece's name, along with the apartment where her mother-in-law resides. The mother-in-law was recently released from jail. My niece was recently admitted (via court order) to a mental institution, only to be released a couple of weeks later. She is now back at the apartment she shares with her husband. What options do my brother and his wife have against their son-in-law? They have been unable to convince their daughter that she is in a bad situation and needs to divorce this man.
