Default Ticket In A Small Town

i come from grand rapids, one of the bigger cities in michigan and have been able to successfully fight speeding tickets within the city and its surrounding areas. i have been issued a ticket in a small town before, fought it, and was basically found responsible before i had a chance to plead my case. the officer and judge knew each other, while they were talking about their families before court even started the judge was writing my verdict.

i recently received a ticket in a village with a population of less than 500. i dont want the same thing to happen again. so my question is: is there a way i can move heiring to another court, possibly one closer to home but in the same county?

the closest city in the county i was ticketed in is about 20 miles away, as compared to ~100 miles away.

    thanks for any possible help,
    will

You have not described any basis upon which a court is likely to grant a change of venue.

Most commonly, where the court is convinced that an impartial hearing cannot be had where the action is pending. From what you have stated so far, there is nothing to distinguish your ticket from the thousands of others resolved by local courts every day.

California is the only state I know of where the ticket can be moved to the county seat but you have to request it at the time you receive the ticket. The county seat also has to be closer to your home/work. You always have the option to appeal.

thanks for all your help, iv learned alot more about the legal system from this forum then i ever thought i would have.

btw, it turns out the trial is held in a separate town even farther away. im guessing the initial 'village' is a sister-city of where its being held.

In the absence of a municipal court (and there aren't that many of them) deciding a ticket issued by the police department of that particular municipality, traffic proceedings would typically be held at a District Courthouse.
