My name is Alicia, and I am 16. I live in the state of Oklahoma. I have read up a little on how to, and what needs to be done, but it also told me that the only options for being emancipated include, joining the military, becoming pregnant, marriage, and having parental consent.
I live at home with my parents, and two brothers. I feel I support me more than my parents do. I would like to know how I can support myself outside of my parents house. I have discussed this with them and they will not let me unless I join the military when I turn 17. And getting emancipated I could bypass the whole military thing, I have no interest in, I just want to be able to support myself in my own home, go to school, and work.
I want to become emancipated, because me and my brothers have been taken away by DHS once. We (my brothers and I) were taken away because we had no hot water and my parents are alcoholics/druggies. Only one of my parents, my mom, supports our family of five. I want to be able to help, just not feel forced into it. I find it frustrating that my father, can stay home all day and do nothing, while my mother works a 10-hour day and comes home cleans after my brothers, and dad. She also does a paper route and is thinking about getting another job. Which she shouldn't have to. My father is a sex-offender and all his life has had a everything-is-against-me attitude, so therefore justifies his staying at home, by saying he cannot get a job due to his felony.
In short, because I have to help my mother support this family that can support itself, but doesn't, I would like to find a way out, and live on my own supporting myself. I work 5pm to 2 am everyday and I usually only have the time and energy to pay my bills and work more. But not everyone else's bills. I can honestly say at times I get frustrated, and run myself ragged making sure everything is okay and it doesn't work, I'm only 16. I have talked to my parents about emancipation and my father refuses, and my mother does whatever he tells her to.
So I would like information on how to contact a juvenile court in my area and find a way to get this thing going. Thanks.
