Wow, I find this board and start to unload!
A few months ago I was in a car accident. I was a passenger in the car that did not receive a citation, the driver of the car that I was in remained calm and did everything as she was supposed to. The woman who caused the accident was an older gal who was not paying attention.
At the time of the accident I was five months pregnant. Due to the stress the seatbelt put on my abdomen I had to go to the ER to make sure that everything was alright.
The insurance company refused to pay until I went to a specialist, so I went to a chiropractor. This man saw me three times, once we just spoke, and the other two visits he massaged my neck, back, and hips to get things back into place. I have full medical insurance and gave him my information. I explained that I had been in an accident and he wanted the insurance information of the woman's company. I gave it to him.
The settlement we received didn't cover much, just my time off and the medical bills which they had received at the time of the settlement. There was a $400 bill from the chiropractor, and something from the ER. They covered these items. I assumed that the $400 covered all three visits since the bill was so high.
Two months later I get a bill from Mr. Chiropractor explaining that I owed him $800, and that some of the settlement money that I had received should have gone to him. I am willing to pay for my 'treatment' but I know for a fact that his rate for UNINSURED clients is $60.00 per visit, so why on earth would I pay $800.00?
Any clue on what I should do here? I am not trying to cheat anyone at all, but I think that what the chiropractor is asking for is ridiculous.
