My best friend has been involved with a very nice girl for two years; this girl has a son from another relationship who is now seven. She has always battled alcohol, but he said she was vastly improved from what she used to be (before child?).
Lately there has been some turmoil, however. Her son is at his biological father's house this week (they split summers), and his girl has hit the bottle very bad.
I keep telling him to get her somewhere to detox, but he continues to reply that he cannot do anything with her because it will mess up the custody situation with her child - and he does not think he has that power.
Is that true, if he attempts to get her help in a timely manner, can she still get dragged into something? Is it not better to fix the problem before the child returns? Help.
