I am the non-custodial father of a 14 year old. He spends summers and holidays with me here in Washington. The rest of the year he lives with his mother in Indiana. He has recently expressed interest in living with me instead of his mother. He tried to discuss this with his mother but she got upset and now won’t even talk to him. I need to figure out how to legally make this happen but I am not sure how to do it.
What specifically do I need to do to get this started? (Indiana has jurisdiction)
How long does this process take?
The child is with me currently and wants to stay here. He is scheduled to return in a few weeks. It would be great if he could just stay here and start school at the end of summer instead of going back to Indiana, starting school there, then going all the way back here and starting school again here. Is there anything I can do to make this happen (i.e. expedited or temporary changes in custody)?
Will I need to travel to Indiana to attend court or are there any other options? Will the child be expected to meet with the judge?
Is there any chance that the judge will not allow the custody change? It seems pretty straight forward to me….I have a great job, live in a great neighborhood and I am very responsible, my ex barley makes any money, lives in a bad neighborhood and is not very responsible.
